Twitter writing for non-profits and small business
Twitter is a great tool for communicating with your clients, supporters, members and the wider community, but it takes a lot of time to keep it current. "Tweeting"--the act of posting items on Twitter--should be done at least a few times a day, but most small businesses and non-profits do not have the time.
Did you know? 300,000 new users sign up for Twitter each day and Twitter receives 180 million unique visitors per month.
Twitter is easier to launch than a blog and offers real-time discussion with other users. For that reason, it may be a great way to get your feet wet with social media marketing. (If you are not familiar with Twitter, scroll down for a brief overview.)
helping you maintain a consistent Twitter presence
Based on the highly successful "Twitter Tag Team" approach used by The Pixel Project (for whom Crystal volunteers as blog editor), Crystal can maintain your Twitter presence when you are not available to "tweet".
The process is simple: you work with Crystal to decide on a range of topics that you would like to include, then Crystal finds and posts current news and links pertaining to those topics. Crystal will write the tweets to draw attention and motivate people to "re-tweet" them.
Crystal will alert you to direct messages on Twitter and any other tweets that may need your attention. Your staff or volunteers can log in to Twitter whenever they like to add additional tweets and reply to the messages you receive.

not familiar with Twitter?
If you are not yet familiar with Twitter, here's how it works, in a nutshell. You set up your account with a unique username and password. You use the Find feature on Twitter to find other users you would like to follow. For example, one of my clients is a women's centre. They follow other women's organizations and non-profits in their community, who have reciprocated by following the centre.
Each post that you put on Twitter is called a "tweet". You can tweet about anything you like. Your followers will see it and, hopefully, respond either by direct messaging you or "re-tweeting" your post to their followers. Here's the catch--your tweets can only be 140 characters long. Brevity is of great importance.
Twitter is really like word-of-mouth marketing for the online world. You get your name out there, your followers tell others, those people tell others, and pretty soon, you'll get new followers and new potential customers.
One of the great things about Twitter is its versatility. You can use it to share information related to your organization, promote events, network with other organizations, and share news items related to your work.
